I often use this phrase to explain my motivation for working with Tech CEOs. It's a memorable statement, but more importantly, it reflects my genuine belief.
When people are clear on the mission and feel heard and valued, they are happy and hopefully excited to build the thing that is so clearly described in the mission.
I love what the founder of HubSpot said ‘Treat your culture as your second product…We have two products, one we sell to our customers (HubSpot’s CRM) and one we sell to our employees (HubSpot’s culture). He goes on to explain why and shares that culture is a product that is never done. You’re always iterating.’
As a startup, you might feel like you don’t have the resources for culture; maybe you think people don’t care because they are all focused on launching a product. Where there is a will, there is a way. There are lightweight things you can do to create culture quickly and, just like a product, get feedback on that minimum viable product and iterate.
It matters because happy people do make happy products.
Make it a great day,
Wendi
